Reporting to: Creative Director
Hours: 4 – 8 per week
Purpose:
The Editor will commission, develop and publish written articles in support of Better Streets’ policies, programs, campaigns and coalition, to fuel the organisation’s regular newsletter and blog.

Purpose:
The Editor will commission, develop and publish written articles in support of Better Streets’ policies, programs, campaigns and coalition, to fuel the organisation’s regular newsletter and blog.
Key responsibilities & duties
- Establish an editorial policy (in collaboration with the Policy Director)
- Build and maintain a content calendar (in collaboration with the Marketing Manager)
- Develop a ‘house style’ (in collaboration with the Creative Director)
- Commission, solicit and encourage articles from volunteers, coalition partners and other contributors (in collaboration with the Coalition and Volunteer managers)
- Monitor social and news channels for stories and news to react to and comment on
- Assess, edit and annotate (incl fact-check) submitted articles for publication, as well as writing original material
- Assist in the adaptation of content to digital formats, including social, podcast and video (in collaboration with Video lead and Social Media manager).
- Track readership and reaction to Better Streets body of work in order to analyse and improve over time
Skills & experience required / desirable
- Loves to read, loves to write. Very good at both.
- Strategic thinker.
- Experienced or deeply interested in urban planning and active transport, policy and research.
- A little obsessive about style, grammar and persuasive impact. Maybe highly obsessive.
- Takes deadlines and publishing schedules seriously.
- Respects their audience.
- May have worked in media, publishing, marketing, communications or similar fields.
- Wants to build a body of work that will enhance a portfolio, burnish a CV and potentially lead to interesting job opportunities.
